All of us know the feeling all too well. Regardless of what you call it — being worn down, too pooped to pop or just plain tuckered out — we all feel the fatigue of day to day living on occasion. And it is at these times that we need to heed our bodies’ early warning signals and take a break from the action.

Let’s face it, none of us can constantly maintain a frenetic pace — running at full throttle — and not run out of gas at some point. A weary body will, sooner or later, ultimately wilt under the strains and pressures of today’s hustle and bustle world. And a tired mind, when steadily overworked to exhaustion, will before long only produce listless and lethargic thoughts.

In order to keep your mind, body and spirit in tip top shape, you need to turn down the heat and turn off the noise every once in a while. Hey, there’s nothing wrong with constantly testing yourself; pushing to discover new horizons and stretching to reach further than ever before. That’s what high powered, super charged living is all about.

You also need to know when you should let off the accelerator as well. By listening to your body and realizing when enough is more than enough, you can avoid the unnecessary risk of burning yourself out. Running yourself completely into the ground can ultimately prove terribly harmful to your long term growth and development. Testing your limits is one thing; pushing too far quite another altogether.

Each of us are different and require varying degrees of rest and relaxation. What’s good for the goose may not be good for the gander. You and only you can determine when you need to give yourself a break and of equal importance, how much of a break you require.

But rest assured, you definitely need to take a break now and then if you’re ever going to maximize your full potential on earth. What you do to relax, recharge and refuel is totally up to you. Don’t worry about what others do to unwind, you just need to find the right ticket for YOU. That something should be whatever combination of activities (or no activities) that allow you to rejuvenate your body, refresh your mind and reenergize your passion for living.

Contrary to popular belief, rest doesn’t necessarily mean becoming a coach potato and doing absolutely nothing. However, if that works for you, go with the flow. On the other hand, if you’re one of those individuals that needs to "blow out the soot" in a more physical manner, just go ahead and let it rip.

Regardless of whether it’s wiggling your toes in the sand, scaling a mountain top or going for broke shooting the rapids; you need to do whatever it takes to recharge your batteries. The time you invest getting yourself back into playing condition and back on the right track is time well spent indeed. Then, once you’re ready to roll again, it’s time to get back in the action better than ever before.

The Bottom Line: When you consistently get your rest, you’ll be as good if not better than the best of the rest.
