Power Up Passages

Fear Not.
March 8, 2003.

Good things happen to people who are not afraid to take a chance. After all, taking a chance on life, on others and on yourself is what living is all about. I’m sure you have heard the old maxim that says there is nothing to fear but fear itself. That is so true. Once you finally realize that fear is nothing more than a feeling and that you can keep that feeling under control, your days of letting fear run you life are over.

It has been said that fear is nothing more than false evidence appearing real. I totally agree with that assessment. Yet fear still dominates the lives of countless millions of good people. These born winners never achieve their dreams because of their fear factor. They are afraid to take a chance at the best life has to offer because they are afraid of failing or failing short in the attempt.

Just the simple prospect of losing or failing literally scares these fearful folks from head to toe. They are so worried about making a mistake that they give in to their fears and refuse to take a chance on themselves. Rather than give life their very best shot, they elect to play it safe instead.

They somehow fail to realize how playing it safe predictably backfires on them and places everything they could ever have, be and achieve at risk. Instead of winning, they predictably end up with the short end of the stick. It doesn't have to be this way.

We need to condition ourselves to become fear-less. We need to recognize that our feelings of fear are based on things that haven't happened yet. Why should you or I sit around and worry about what might happen? We shouldn't.

How many times have you needlessly worried about something bad possibly happening to you that never occurred? Did all of the fretting, agonizing and worrying do you one bit of good? Of course it didn’t. So why not opt to take charge of your life and make the things you want to happen – happen?

Hey, there is a risk involved in virtually anything and everything we do or say. Nothing worthwhile in life is ever accomplished without taking some sort of risk. We need to focus all of our effort, energy and enthusiasm on making our lives the exciting adventure they deserve to be. And if we happen to make a mistake every once in a while, what's the big deal? After all, Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron and Mickey Mantle struck out several times for each time they knocked one out of the park. Yet all three of these Hall of Famers are remembered for hitting prodigious home runs, aren’t they? What was their secret for success? They just kept on swinging.

When you goof up or fall down, you simply need to get up, get better and get going again. Each and every time out, with no exceptions. You should concentrate your efforts on winning life’s daily battles and not worry about the prospects of losing. You should strive to find the needed answers and not dwell on the problems. In short, you need to become fear-less. It’s not always easy to do, but you can do it. Yes, you can!.

Once you have learned to conquer your feelings of fear, you become free to achieve anything and everything you have ever dreamed about.

The Bottom Line: Fear not. When you do, there’s absolutely nothing you cannot accomplish in life.
