Power Up Passages

Winning Common Denominators.
February 20, 2003.

Winners have a lot in common. Let’s take a few moments and examine some of the prevalent traits or should we say common denominators that are shared by most winners.

Winners have conquered the temptation to give up. All of us are tempted to give up or quit when faced with the seemingly insurmountable problems, difficulties and challenges of every day life. A winner refuses to give in to the temptation to quit. In fact, a winner does not allow the word quit to enter into his or her vocabulary.

There is an old proverb that says, "The same hammer that shatters the glass forges the steel." Winners are made of steel to be sure. A winner gains additional internal strength and self confidence each and every time he or she perseveres and overcomes the odds.

Winners love life and love what they do. No question about it, winners love life. They embrace every day of their life adventure as they live it to its fullest. Winners also love what they do in life, since they insist on doing what they love to do. Let's face it, nobody can realistically expect to excel if their heart and soul is not 100% behind the effort.

Winners realize that external reward alone is never enough to keep them going. They need to be passionately involved in a cause, something that benefits themselves and others as well. They feel a definitive need to be totally wrapped up in something that challenges them, excites them and drives them to do their best and be their best. Winners are those lucky people who have found a way to take what they truly love to do and make it their life's work.

Winners are never satisfied with anything less than their best. Winners constantly strive to improve themselves daily. Not every once in a while, but every single day. They consistently exhibit an unwavering commitment to excellence in everything they say, think and do. They are simply unwilling to accept anything less from themselves than their very best.

Winners love a challenge. In fact, they thrive on it. Winners love the chance to put their best to the test, never backing down from a formidable challenge. Instead, they see challenges as opportunities to prove themselves – and improve themselves. Winners treasure that unparalleled feeling of exhilaration that comes from taking on a challenge and ultimately coming out on top.

Winners expect to win. Winners possess an optimistic outlook on life. Even when they get knocked down or fall short, they get up and get better, always looking to gain something positive from every temporary setback. Winners win because they fully expect – deep down where it counts – to win.

When you put all of these common denominators to work for you, you can start expecting some uncommonly good results.

The Bottom Line: You need to make winning your way of life.

Difficulties are meant to rouse, not discourage. The human spirit is to grow strong by conflict.
William Ellery Channing

Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together.
Vincent Van Gogh

It doesn't matter if you try and try and try again, and fail. It does matter if you try and fail, and fail to try again.
Charles Kettering
