Power Up Passages

Don't Go With The Flow.
August 19, 2002

Average people have a tendency to exhibit what might be termed a herd mentality. These average types seem quite content to go with the flow and follow the crowd. They evidently feel that by going with the flow and doing what others around them are doing, they minimize the risks and uncertainties in their lives. If the herd goes this way, then they go this way too. If the herd goes another way, they along with rest of the crowd are sure to follow. If the herd does it this way, then they feel as though they should do it that way too.

Going with the flow is easy. Going with the flow is comfortable. Going with the flow is safe … or is it? While keeping things simple will rarely rock any boat, this average mindset also keeps these so-called average people in their place – and an average place at that. That is precisely why going with the flow and following the herd is so very dangerous to the winner inside you. Americans are not born to be just average – they are born to be winners.

You must resolutely resist the temptation to go with the flow. Trail blazers like yourself think for themselves, they do not need others to do their thinking for them. Pioneers like you follow their own instincts and intuition, seeing no need to follow the crowd. Without a doubt, winners would much rather create their own path and blaze a trail into history than ever wait on anyone or anything outside of their own control.

Winners watch the crowd like the average folks do, but the similarities end right there. Winners watch the crowd, they study what the crowd is doing and where the crowd is going, then quickly go in the other direction. In order to insure that your life keeps getting better and better, you must be ready, willing and able to answer the challenges life presents and even more importantly, be ready, willing and able to do it your own way. Do not repeat the mistakes and missteps of the average person by going with the flow or foolishly following the crowd. Instead, do what you need to do, go where you need to go and show the will you need to win.
