Power Up Passages

A Little Peace of Mind.
February 8, 2003.

I'm sure you have on occasion heard someone say, "I'd love to give that person a piece of my mind." It is quite doubtful that the person making that statement was contemplating saying something nice to the other individual at the time. Probably far from it. Ninety nine times out of a hundred, this statement is made when someone is angry or upset.

Sharing that kind of piece of mind doesn't accomplish anything worthwhile. Oh sure, maybe by giving someone a piece of their mind they could blow off a little steam with a few moments of ranting and raving. But then what? What do they have to show once the tirade is concluded? Nothing good, that’s for sure. Can a negative outburst ever promote a healthy, positive peace of mind? Of course not.

How about you? Have you ever spoken an unkind word in anger only to regret it a few moments later? Of course you have. All of us have. Unfortunately, the moment something negative or destructive has left your mouth, you can apologize over and over again but can never take it back.

While everyone feels these negative feelings every now and again, it should be duly noted that these or any other negative vibes you experience do nothing to enhance your quality of life. When you feel mad, sad or bad, you harm your own peace of mind. And anything that hurts you can never be good for you, can it? Of course not.

So how do you go about turning these bad feelings into something positive? You turn them around by turning the heat down.

Whenever you begin having negative feelings about anyone or anything, including yourself, you must condition yourself to eliminate this negative garbage from your mind immediately. Not sooner or later, but right now! You can never run the risk of waiting until later to purge this negative rubbish from your system. No, it has to be done right then and right there. Each and every time. No exceptions.

You must condition yourself to replace those negative, self destructive feelings with positive, uplifting, inspirational thoughts and ideas. Remember, you're in charge -- so take charge. One of my favorite techniques I use when something irritates me or has me hot under the collar is to Take 2!

I imagine myself placing my feet in a cool mountain stream; feeling the brisk, crisp, invigorating water cooling me off and cooling me down. I can actually sense the tension subside as the stress, strain and anxiety flow away from my body. A quite, calming peacefulness takes over and I begin to feel much better. This mental exercise immediately changes my mood and restores my peace of mind.

You too should develop some sort of mental tension reliever you can quickly turn to when the heat is on and the pressure is turned up full throttle. You will soon discover that you can use these Take 2! moments to stop any negative pattern or thought process cold and get right back on track.

Hey, it isn't always easy to turn off the bad, but it is the right thing to do. Through relentless repetition, you can condition yourself to turn off the bad and turn on the good – especially at those times when you need it the most.

Learn to Take 2! and then watch your life take off.

The Bottom Line: Whenever you find yourself getting a little hot under the collar, turn the heat down by getting a little peace of mind.
