Power Up Passages

Standing Room Only.
January 24, 2003.

As you begin turning the corner and climbing up the ladder in your chosen area of expertise, you'll discover that there is always something else to learn, something else to do. But taking on each and every challenges presented is what makes the trip to the top so exciting in the first place. Oh sure, the path to greatness is always going to have more than its fair share of detours, potholes and dead end streets. Yet by remaining focused and staying committed to reaching your full potential, you’ll make it all the way to the top – and beyond.

I’m sure you’re more than familiar with the old expression that says "there is plenty of room at the top." There is, and always will be, more than enough room at the top for anyone who perseveres and refuses to quit in his or her relentless pursuit of excellence. While there is always more than enough room at the top, the true champions have also learned there is never quite enough room to sit down.

"Standing room only" is the name of the game when you finally arrive at the threshold of greatness. Getting to the top and then going even higher requires that you stay at the top of your game. Once you reach the rarefied air of the summit, the area you once considered almost beyond your reach, you will discover even more exciting and challenging peaks to conquer.

Come on, admit it. Don’t you just love the almost electric exhilaration that accompanies the feeling of climbing higher, stretching further and reaching farther than ever thought was possible? Can there be any better feeling than getting out there and doing your best and being your best?

There’s no doubt about it, there is always plenty of room at the top for you too. However, you need to realize that getting to the top is one thing while staying there is another matter altogether. In order for you to stay at the top of your own game, you must continue to demonstrate the same determination, commitment and drive it took to get to the top in the first place. If you are perfectly willing to sit on your laurels once you reach the top, your stay will be brief at best.

But with all of the exciting adventures life offers you every single day, why in the world would you ever want to sit down anyway?

The Bottom Line: When you consistently display excellence in every day action, you’ll find a place at the top just waiting for you.

Let me tell you the secret that has led me to my goal: my strength lies solely in my tenacity.
Louis Pasteur

As you make your way through life, let this ever be your goal, keep your eye upon the dougnut and not upon the hole.
