Power Up Passages

Taking Charge and Taking Off!
January 21, 2003.

If you truly want to put some real power into your performance, you first need to understand who’s in charge of running your life. Just in case you haven't figured it out by now, that someone is you! That’s right, you are the one calling the shots. You should see yourself as the president and chief operating officer of a very prestigious company – and that company is YOU, Inc.

Wow! Bet you didn't know you were the top dog, did you? Hey, let’s clear the air so there can be no misunderstanding about who’s running your show. You always have and always will work for YOU, Inc. Even if you are presently employed by someone else, you still work for and represent yourself. This is a very important concept for you to grasp, especially in light of the fact that some folks never realize that they always work for themselves. Always! If you currently work for someone else, all you have basically done is subcontract out your services to that company. But you still represent YOU, Inc.

Just think about it for a moment. The only person who can get you a raise in pay … is you. The only person who can get you promoted is … you. The only person in charge of YOU, Inc. is, you guessed it … you! Slacking off or not doing your best reflects poorly on only one person – and that person is you! That is precisely why you should always autograph your work with quality, with class and with distinction. Starting to get the picture here?

As the top banana and head honcho of this top notch operation, you are in charge of running YOU, Inc. and doing your own thing. You'll discover that there is nothing quite like grabbing the ball and running with it; knowing where you are going and how you are going to get there. But being the one in charge also comes with some BIG responsibilities.

After all, it is your job to make sure that your company operates at peak efficiency at all times. You must take full responsibility for making it the best company there is – and then commit to making it even better. You must determine exactly what you expect from YOU, Inc. and then set out a clearly defined game plan and timetable for the achievement of these goals.

It is important to remember that you are running a multimillion dollar enterprise here (yes, your mind is quite capable of generating million dollar ideas!), so you need to walk, talk and act like the chief executive officer of a multimillion dollar venture as well. It is important that all facets of YOU, Inc. reflect exactly who you are and what you are committed to accomplishing.

Are you ready to finally step up and take charge of your life? Are you prepared to do whatever it takes to turn your dreams into reality? Then isn't it high time that you took charge of your life? You bet it is! When you boldly grab the reins and become the leader you were born to be, your life will become the outstanding success it deserves to be.

So what are you waiting for? It's time to take charge - and watch your life take off!

The price of greatness is responsibility.
Winston Churchill

A weakened sense of responsibility does not weaken the fact of responsibility.
William J. Bennett

Hold yourself responsible for a higher standard than anybody expects of you. Never excuse yourself.
Henry Ward Beecher
