Power Up Passages

Only A Matter of Time.
December 21, 2002.

A winner doesn’t hope to win. He or she is well aware that hoping won’t get the job done. Further, a winner never thinks he or she will win. Uncertainty about one’s abilities results in less than sterling results. A winner knows, really knows deep down where it counts, that when he or she does what is required, then he or she will reap the benefits.

That’s right – winning is only a matter of time when we get in the habit of doing whatever is needed, whenever it needs to be done. It is never a question of "if" we will be successful in life, but only a matter of "when" our success will occur.

Far too many of us needlessly place terms and conditions on anything and everything we do. How many times have you heard someone say that they will do something if this or if that happens? Unfortunately, their performance seems to be habitually conditioned upon something outside their control occurring first. If that something, for one reason or another, doesn't happen, then what do they do? You guessed it – they do nothing. And doing nothing isn’t going to get the job done, is it?

"If" this, "if" that. "If" that, "if" this. Good grief! A winner would never permit his or her success to become an "iffy" proposition. No, a winner expects to win and win is precisely what a winner consistently does. These power performers have discovered that winning isn’t really all that difficult when they expect to win.

A winner wants control. I guess I should state it a bit stronger. A winner demands control of this or her own thoughts, words and deeds. If something affects his or her life, a winner wants control of it. Period. End of the statement.

A winner's outcome is never conditioned on anything but his or her own effort. You'll never hear a winner saying that if this happens, then I'll do that. Instead, winners let their actions speak for themselves. They have learned that when they do what they need to do, then good things will happen for them and to them as well.

How about you? Have you taken charge of your life? Are you out there doing your best every single day and even more importantly, do you expect to win? I’m not talking about hoping to win, I’m talking about approaching everything you do with the expectation of winning. If not, you need to get with the program and grab control of your life right here and right now. Not sooner or later. Right now!

When (not "if") you muster the courage to accept personal responsibility for yourself and your actions and then consistently do whatever it takes whenever it is needed, then you’ll soon find yourself winning time and time again. When you embrace winning as a way of life, your success is only a matter of time too.

The spirit, the will to win, and the will to excel are the things that endure. These qualities are so much more important than the events that occur.
Vincent Lombardi

You can have anything you want if you want it desperately enough. You must want it with an exuberance that erupts through the skin and joins the energy that created the world.
Sheila Graham

Life is not holding a good hand; life is playing a poor hand well.
Danish Proverb

Lord, grant that I may always desire more than I can accomplish.

A person shows what he is by what he does with what he has.
