Power Up Passages

Giving Can't The Heave-Ho.
December 13, 2002.

The more push you have - the less pull you need. Every person who has ever made themselves successful has been a self-starter.

The best have one thing in common. They absolutely detest wasting their time. Just the mere thought of sitting around doing absolutely nothing can drive a winner completely crazy. These champions make the most of their time and as a result, they are constantly looking for more effective ways of doing everything they do.

While each of us is allotted the same 24 hours every day, the real movers and shakers are those unique individuals that consistently find ways to squeeze more living out of these 24 hours. Winners are super successful at discovering all sorts of new and innovative ways to get things done and as a result, they always seem to get more things done than other folks do.

On the other hand, the would-be winners are super successful at finding all sorts of excuses and reasons why things "can't" be done. They are quick to tell us that they can't do this and they can't do that. One can't is followed by another can't and then another can't and so on. Can't, can't, can't, can’t, can’t. Instead of getting the job done, they leave behind an endless trail of "cant’s" and things left undone.

Which would you rather be successful at doing?

Without question, CAN'T is the most destructive word known to mankind. It can squander our energy, diffuse our focus and siphon our strength and commitment. Whenever people say they can't do this or they can't do that, they have ostensibly run up the white flag and surrendered; loudly and clearly proclaiming to the world that they are either unable or unwilling to complete the task at hand.

When someone tells you they can't do something, they are basically saying no to you, no to themselves and no to the rest of the world as well. Whenever individuals proclaim that they can't do something, they usually end up being 100% right! Rather than show the courage and grit to do whatever it takes to get the job done, these would-be winners choose to quit and give in, thereby relinquishing control of their lives to someone else.

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, a winner will never quit or give up and will certainly never forfeit control of his or her life. Never!

Let's face the facts – nobody gives a hoot about what you can't do! It is imperative that you eliminate can't and other negative phrases from your vocabulary and give them the heave-ho once and for all. In order to be your best and do your best, you need to get can't out of your life and substitute a no holds barred I can do it attitude in its place. After all, "I can do it" and "I will do it" sounds a lot better than "I can't do it", doesn't it?

Never forget that a champion is someone who gets up – even when he or she "can’t."

What seems impossible one minute becomes, through faith, possible the next.
Norman Vincent Peale

There are no limitations to the mind except those we acknowledge.
Napoleon Hill

It doesn't matter how many say it cannot be done or how many people have tried it before; it's important to realize that whatever you're doing, it's your first attempt at it.
Wally Amos

Some of the world's greatest feats were accomplished by people not smart enough to know they were impossible.
Doug Larson

I am always doing things, I can't do, that's how I get to do them.
Pablo Picasso
