Here's wishing you a power packed, positively charged day at work today!
Welcome to The Motivational and Inspirational Corner Newsletter. We're really pleased to have you join us as we talk about this month's topic - making motivation work in the workplace. Keeping the team at work motivated and committed to excellence in everything they say, think and do is a formidable task, but one every successful company works at daily.
It sometimes seems as if motivation and the workplace are on opposite ends of the spectrum. Far too often an employee not committed to doing his or her best will look for the lazy way out and put forth at best a lackluster effort. This type of employee is a liability and unfortunately, must be sent packing. You never want to be mistaken for this type of employee or you may find yourself facing the "firing" squad one day. As Vincent Lombardi once said, "If you're not fired with enthusiasm, you'll be fired with enthusiasm."
You want to be the best employee possible. You should always bring your best to the table each and every day and look for ways to bring value to the company you work for. Remember, you should always be working for a raise. When you start making things happen and stop making excuses at work, people will most assuredly sit up and take notice. A commitment to excellence in everything you say, think and do is always richly rewarded. Always. If the company you're presently working for doesn't give it to you, somebody else will recognize the effort and commitment you bring to the table daily and will give you a raise at their company.
"The best way to get something done is to begin."
-- Motivational action quote by unknown author --
As an employer, you need to develop a team where each and every player on the team has a valued role and where each individual's input is always openly encouraged. An effective team is said to be one where together everyone achieves more. A team in which everyone, from the top right down to the bottom, is actively involved in the setting of team goals -- is a team that wins. When you assemble a team that persistently and consistently works to attain the goals they have collectively established, you've really got a winner on your hands.
"The key is not to prioritize what's on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities."
-- Motivational time management quote by Stephen Covey --
The best teams are those that set challenging goals for themselves. These goals should be well defined and have aggressive (but not overly aggressive) timetables for the achievement of these goals. Assign responsibilities and then step back and let the team players do their jobs.
"Light is the task where many share the toil."
-- Teamwork quote by Homer --
Henry Ford, who knew a thing or two about putting together a winning team, once said this about team building: "Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress and working together is success." Henry Ford wanted team players who didn't know it couldn't be done. That type of positive thinking paved the way for Ford Motor Company to become one of the most successful companies in the history of the world.
"Time is free, but it is priceless. You can't own it, but you can use it. You can't keep it, but you can spend it. Once you've lost it, you can never get it back."
--Time management quote by Harvey Mackay --
"Don't let the fear of the time it will take to accomplish something stand in the way of your doing it. The time will pass any way; we might just as well put that passing time to the best possible use."
-- Teamwork quote by Earl Nightingale --
As employees and employers, we can all take a page out of Henry Ford's play book. Set goals, establish aggressive timetables for the attainment of each and every goal, give everyone a valued role in the process and then get out the way and let the winners win. When mistakes are made, correct them, find a better way and keep moving relentlessly towards the attainment of the goals.
"It's kind of fun to do the impossible."
-- Positive thinking quote by Walt Disney --
There is no greater feeling of achievement and self satisfaction than doing what others say can't be done. Regardless of whether you're an employer or an employee, it is your responsibility to do everything you can to make your team the best it can possibly be. When you do and actively encourage others to do so as well, you'll discover that motivation will become a way of life at your workplace.
"Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race."
-- Motivational action quote by Calvin Coolidge --
